BACALAR

Bacalar real estate. Why invest in land lots by the lagoon of seven colors?

Bacalar

Bacalar real estate has been discovered by retirement-seeking investors that appreciate the magic of nature’s beauty, but it is still an under-developed region with excellent opportunities for investment.

In ancient times, Bacalar was another Mayan city, taken by the Spanish in 1543. It was named a "Pueblo Mágico" in 2006. Bacalar, in Costa Maya region, is next to the border with Belize, 15 miles from Chetumal and 3 hours from Tulum.

Bacalar is the second-largest fresh water lake in Mexico, a lagoon of seven colors that stretches for 50 miles, and it’s one of the most beautiful places in Mexico. The seven colors mean the shades between blue and green that combine together and are affected by the varying depth of water, the sun and the natural color of the water.

The lagoon of Bacalar is a beautiful pool of light blue water and white sand, with lagoon part of the lake stretching for 34 miles (55 km). Here you can also find beautiful dive sites, such as Cenote Azul, located at the entrance of Bacalar town, and offering beautiful rock formations, caves and passages. There are also charming spots for swimming, boating, sailing and kayaking all over the lagoon.

The fortress of San Miguel is one of the major attractions. It was built in 1729 by the Spanish for the purpose of preventing raids by pirates and fighting against the English who wanted to control wood trade of the region. It can be still visited today.

Bacalar real estate is also one of the most interesting investment opportunities in the country, with waterfront lots still affordable, and many Americans/ Canadians deciding to retire in its peace and tranquility. The recent developments are also attracting more of bigger and younger investors.

It has easy access to the ancient Mayan ruins of Kohunlich and Chacchoben. Bacalar is also only 100 km away from Mahahual, the quickly-developing, but still sleepy Caribbean beach town, that is growing due its highly-popular cruise port. Ideal place for kayaking, birdwatching, windsurfing, canoeing and other water sports.
