Tulum welcomes Rene Redzepi, the chef of Noma, Copenhagen - the best restaurant in the world

René Redzepi, the chef of the best restaurant in the world – Copenhagen’s Noma – has just moved to Tulum – with his team and his pop-up restaurant, drawing excitement and completely sold out reservations.

The new Noma business partner, Ali Sonko, and many of its cooks are now enjoying Tulum’s beaches and producing mouth-watering creations in their open-air kitchen.



This is the third-ever Noma pop-up (two previous ones were in Tokyo and Sydney), where Mr. Redzepi and his staff transfer to a new place and open a restaurant for a certain amount of time.

The main idea is to transfer Noma’s signature sense of place and time into a new locality, by creating a tasting menu with local ingredients. The team studies ethnic local ingredients and styles, and produce their interpretations of food art.



The chef has partnered with Traspatio Maya, a non-profit organization that represents 15 Mayan communities that cultivate indigenous products, such as beans, corn and squash.



The tasting menu and beverage pairing is $600 USD per person (plus 16 percent tax, and a 9 percent service charge).

Mr. Redzepi is also launching a scholarship fund, directed to Mexican culinary students, who will get a chance to intern at the new Noma in Copenhagen, and he is also planning to serve complimentary lunches to culinary students.

The tickets are completely sold out, though it still might be possible to hunt some online through re-sellers.

However, there is no need to despair. Noma is offering a walk-in only bar option – so all you need to do is show up and get in line.
