Here's what it means to be a beach with a soul

Tulum beach has been named as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by TripAdvisor, Telegraph Travel, Metro UK, Business Insider, Travel+Leisure and many more expert travel publications and glossy magazines.

But what is it that makes a beach special? Is it just breathtaking scenery – turquoise and clear warm water, sugary white sand beach, lots of sun throughout the year, and not many crowds? Yes, Tulum has all that, but it’s got much more. Tulum is not your ordinary beach – it’s a beach with a soul.

We have collected these 6 facts about Tulum beach and about what makes it so magical.

1. Tulum beach is bohemian. It used to be a backpackers paradise, until this romantic location was spotted by fashion crowd and those in the know. As a result, it’s now a perfect combination of eco-chic. As Travel+Leisure puts it, “Once a sleepy beach outpost, Tulum has become a fashionable yet decidedly low-key escape on a bohemian Grand Tour that might take in Marrakesh, Goa, and Phuket.”

2. Tulum beach is eco-friendly. Tulum beach has made a decision to be off the power grid: so you will find solar generators and wind turbines in beach hotels. Biodegradble products are often the first choice in Tulum. Restaurants buy locally and seek out organic options. Architects study Mayans buildings and often use local building materials in their constructions.

3. Tulum is all about yoga.  Most beachfront hotels offer yoga classes, so coming to Tulum and trying yoga is a must.

4. Tulum loves Spas and relaxation. In Tulum, your body and soul rejuvenate, and a Spa is a perfect place that gives for both. 7. Tulum beach loves gourmet food. Tulum is witnessing an explosion of new eco-chic, gourmet restaurants on the beach and jungle side of the main beach strip. 8. Tulum is immersed in Mayan land and culture.  Outside of the beach zone, you will find an ancient Tulum, which was a walled Mayan city. Tulum used to serve as a port for Coba, a Mayan city 45 min away. The ruins are situated on cliffs overlooking the sea. Chichen Itza, 3h away, is one of the largest, mythical Mayan cities.

9. Tulum is all about water sports! Tulum is home to the world’s 2nd largest barrier reef, so there is a wide variety of sea life to be explored by diving or snorkeling. Kitesurfing is a sport that has been taking off in Tulum due to its great wind conditions.

10. Tulum loves adventure. Tulum is surrounded by cenotes (fresh water sinkholes) and an amazing, unique underground cave system that attracts cave divers from around the world. The cave system and cenotes were formed due to a large meteorite hitting Yucatan peninsula 65 million years ago.
